Different Places One Can Visit on Romantic Nile Cruises - Part II

One doesn't have to go for a tour of the entire Egypt to appreciate its diverse and rich culture and structures. The Romantic Nile cruises offer a much more luxurious and comfortable way to enjoy all the major temples and structures as all the Egyptian pharaohs were attracted towards the then mystical properties of the fertile Nile. These cruises usually start at the Luxor port which is famous for the largest temple complex in Egypt- the Karnak temples, Queen Hatshepsut's temple and also the traditional Nile boats - Feluccas.

The cruise moves on with the valley of kings which is famous for being the resting spot for sixty major pharaohs. The Edfu city is famous for the temple of Horus which was built in the first century and is the second largest temple complex. Then, the Romantic Nile cruises visit the Kom Ombo which is situated at the river bend about forty kilometres north of Aswan. It is famous for the mysterious double temple built during the roman and Ptolemaic period.

This double temple is devoted to two gods - Sobek (crocodile headed) and Horus (falcon headed). The temple has everything in two (maybe to accommodate the egos of both the gods!). The most surprising thing is that the reliefs placed on the walls contain details of ancient medical devices and instruments. Although, this temple was very badly damaged by earthquake and the river, it is still a very beautiful place and is a must visit for every Egyptian tourist. If the cruises approach at the time of the sunset, then one can see the sight of changing colours on the stonework of the temple.

Luxury River Cruises in Asia

Take a journey back in time and discover the natural beauty of Asia with a luxury river cruise. Journey along the mysterious heart of China, the mighty Yangtze River. See ancient sites and remote villages, and get an up-close look at the Three Gorges Dam. Enjoy the extraordinary scenery along the Mekong Delta, with its mist-enshrouded peaks and dense pines.

The Yangtze River

The Yangtze River, or Chang Jiang, is the longest river in China and Asia, and the third-longest in the world. The river is about 6,380 km long and flows eastwards from its source in Qinghai Province into the East China Sea at Shanghai. As the largest river in the region, the Yangtze is historically, culturally, and economically important to China.

The majority of luxury river cruises either start or end in Shanghai. Shanghai is an exciting and dynamic metropolis located at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Since 1842, the city has grown into a massive international port, attracting people from around the globe.

Bustling urban streets, an emerging fashion district, modern skyscrapers and a pulsating nightlife all give Shanghai a delightfully modern feel.

The Three Gorges is the most spectacular section of the Yangtze River and draws thousands of visitors each year. Located in Sichuan and Hubei Province, the Three Gorges is composed of Qutang Gorge, Wuxia Gorge and Xiling Gorge.

Qutang Gorge is about 8 kilometres long, with 100-metre high walls, stretching from Baidi in the west, to Wushan County in the east, creating a colossal gateway over the Yangtze River.

Wuxia Gorge is said to be the most beautiful of the three. Wuxia is about 40 kilometres long, while Xiling Gorge is the longest of the three, stretching from the Xiangxi stream in Zigui County to the Nanjin Pass in Yichang, running a total of 76 kilometres.

Fengdu is another essential stop on any Yangtze River cruise. Located at the foothill of the mountains, Fengdu is the only ghost city in China. Temples are situated all over Ming Mountain, in which a series of super beings are supposed to dwell.

Legend states that Ming Mountain is one of the 72 graveyards for Taoism. Tao believes that when people die, their spirits will gather at these locations. From March 3 to 15 of the lunar month, Fengdu people hold temple fair days. During the days, "spirit shows" are held in the streets, attracting many believers. Fengdu is a mystical and terrible place of spirits in the minds of the Chinese people.

Another stop on the river cruise itinerary is the city of Wuhan, to see the Hubei Provincial Museum. Founded in 1993, the entire museum covers an area of 51,000 square metres. The museum houses 140,000 archaeological cultural relics dating from the Stone Age to modern day. More than 600 of these are listed as national class exhibit items.

Mekong River

The Mekong River is one of the world?s major rivers and thus a major cruise destination. Deep in history and rich in culture, it's one of the last travel frontiers, with its stunning natural beauty and biodiversity. Some of its attractions include ancient monuments, royal capitals and UNESCO World Heritage sites like Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Luang Prabang in Laos; depicting an illustrious past.

Every cruise itinerary must include a stop at stunning Angkor Wat, a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century. The modern name, Angkor Wat means "City Temple."

The temple is the epitome of Khmer architecture. It has become the symbol of Cambodia and is the country's central tourist attraction. The temple is admired for the grandeur of the architecture, its extensive bas-reliefs and for the numerous devatas (guardian spirits) adorning its walls.

Luang Prabang is a city located in north central Laos, on the Mekong River, about 425 kilometres north of Vientiane. The city was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos. The city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Luang Prabang has both natural and historical sites. Among the natural tourism sites, there are the Kuang Si Falls and Pak Ou Caves. The Haw Kham Royal Palace Museum and the Wat Xieng Thong temple are essential viewing for archaeology enthusiasts.

Luxury river cruises provide a window to the past and an effortless means to see some of the best Asia has to offer.

Top 3 Must-See Highlights on Any Danube River Cruises

Danube river cruises are quickly becoming one of the most popular European vacation alternatives. Many travelers have discovered that the best way to experience the wonderful world located across the pond is not by climbing aboard a massive ocean cruise ship but by booking a few days to sail the river. Designed to show each visitor some of the most breathtaking scenery in Europe Danube river cruises are as much an adventure as they are a relaxing retreat. While aboard passengers can see some of the most historical relevant landmarks in the world as well as small quaint and untouched villages. And for those who are looking for excitement there are countless cities all of which are full of nightlife and entertainment. For those who are searching for culture and natural wonders, here are three must-see locations for Danube river cruises;

Vienna Opera house:
The first opera house built in Vienna, this perfect example of neo-renaissance architecture is a must-see for anyone who is interested in both the arts and world history. This strong and beautiful structure survived World War 2 even though it was set on fire in 1945 by an American bombardment. The front section which still stands today is original to the structure and includes many frescoes by Moritz von Schwind. The Vienna Opera house is one of the busiest in the world with more than 200 performances a year. It is quite common for the house to perform a different opera on each day of the week.

The Iron Gates:
Considered to be one of the most fascinating cliffs in the world, the Iron Gates is a narrow passage way formed by both the Carpathian and Balkan mountains. It is also an unmarked border between Serbia and Romania. The gorge meets the Danube River and is 3.2 km long and only 170m wide. The water is incredibly rough while passing through the rock as the river narrows quite a bit and the water moves at a swift pace, making it an exciting addition to all Danube river cruises. The Iron Gates are also the location for one of Europe's largest hydroelectric power dames.

Palace of Justice:
For any history buff this building is simply a once in a lifetime experience. This historic building is in Bavaria Germany and was the location for the now famous Nuremberg trials where after the Second World War many of Hitler's henchmen were found guilty of unthinkable war crimes. The courtroom and prison are open during the week for tourists and is being renovated for the opening of Memorial Nuremberg Trials hosted by the Nuremberg Municipal Museums scheduled for 2010. This is an important stop for all Danube river cruises and is considered one of the world's most significant historical sights.

Luxurious River Cruises - An Alternative to Tradition

When most people think of a luxury cruise, they visualize a hugh ship out on the ocean, sailing from one exotic tropical port to another. There is an alternative type of cruising, though, that provides quite a different cruise experience while still pampering passengers with luxury and exceptional service. It is called river cruising and it is an amazing way to cruise.

An alternative to traditional cruising
Whether you are a first time cruiser or have experienced many, there is much to like about river cruising. As an alternative to the traditional cruise, it provides a different view of the countries and cities visited on the ship with a more intimate and casual atmosphere. When we consider the areas where these river cruises are most popular, Europe, Asia and South America, one may wish to take a little more time to absorb the sites, culture, locals and the history. The ship`s motion on the water is quite different on a river compared to an ocean cruise, and is much less likely to bother someone who may be prone to motion sickness.

Smaller ships
River cruise ships are necessarily smaller than ocean cruise ships, as they have to navigate the sometimes shallow and tricky waters of an inland waterway. River cruising should not be confused with barging - where passengers float on a barg in man-made canals - because with a powered cruise ship you can explore a country via natural rivers and waterways. Most river cruise ships generally accomadate between 100 and 200 people, although, some are even smaller.

Casual, flexible, personal
River cruising is much more casual than traditional cruising. Dinners are casual and comfortable, and in most cases, do not even require wearing a dress jacket or suit coat. Seating is generally open rather than assigned, giving you an opportunity to dine with different people every night, and there is only one sitting rather than two. Passengers can eat what they want , when they want, and in the company of whom they want - the ultimate in flexibility.

Slower pace, more relaxed
A river cruise vessel travels at a much slower speed than a traditional cruise ship, allowing passengers to better appreciateand enjoy the passing countryside. The slower cruising speed allows the ship`s atmosphere to feature a slower pace and a more relaxed enviornment, something that most river cruisers particularly enjoy. The sometimes frenetic pace of activity on an ocean liner simply does not exist on a river cruise, making it an exceptionally relaxing way to vacation.

Intimate view of the country
River cruising allows you to have a unique and intimate view of the countries you visit. A river cruise takes you well outside of the cities that are typical stopping points and lets you explore the countryside that reflects the true culture and spirit of a country. River cruises usually include stops in smaller villages in towns, where you can mingle with the locals and enjoy a unique cultural experience.

Luxury and exceptional service
A slower pace and a more relaxed atmosphere does not mean that river cruising lacks in luxury and service. On the contrary, because a river cruise ship carries fewer passengers, the crew can provide exceptionally personal service, catering to your every need or want. And because river cruise ships generally do not have a hugh array of bars, entertainment facilities and other nightlife venues, they tend to be quieter and more subdued than ocean liners. You still have access to entertainment and recreational activities, just not as many as on a larger ship.

River cruising season
In warm weather climates, river cruising can occur year round, but most cruise lines still curtail their sailings from November to March. In northern climates the rivers freeze over the winter, necessitating a shorter season that usually runs from April or May through October or November, depending on river conditions. Because river cruise ships hold fewer and do not run as often as ocean liners, accomodations tend to fill up rather quickly. Your best bet is to book your luxury cruise on a river at the earliest date possible to ensure your place on the ship.

Tips on Choosing Uniworld River Cruises

If you are having a difficult time choosing which Uniworld river cruises you should choose from there are a few factors to help you make your decision. Choosing the best vacation will ensure you have a wonderful time. These things you should consider include the destinations, the excursions, and the Uniworld river cruises boat.

The destinations are everything when you choose a Uniworld river cruise. Some of the cruises are only a couple of days. You can extend the cruise and go for an entire week if you would like to. When you plan your trip or you begin searching for which one is right for you, narrow down your search to the length of time you would like to go on a cruise. Choose your destinations. You might have to do a little research on the cities of port if you are not familiar with them. If you would like to see many different cities, it is often better to go on a longer cruise. On the homepage of the website for the Uniworld boutique river cruise collection will help you have an idea of the different destinations to choose from.

Keep in mind some of the Uniworld river cruises stop at the same destinations even if you choose a 3 day trip or a 7 day trip. The boat will begin at the same port and end the cruise at the same port, stopping at the same cities along the way. The only difference might be the amount of time you are docked in the cities and you will have more time to relax. Research the different destinations but also the excursions. The excursions while you are docked at bay are included in the cruise and they are guided tours. It might seem fun to go through Egypt and see the many temples or through Germany's wineries. You want to ensure you have a good time so it is important to choose a Uniworld river cruise with excursions that will provide an adventure you would never forget.

Another factor to consider when you choose which vacation to plan from the Uniworld boutique river cruise collection is the boat itself. Not all boats are the same. Some of the ships are kid friendly. If you are bringing children then you want to be sure there will be plenty of entertainment and fun for the children on the boat. Choosing a boat that is not kid friendly can make for a miserable vacation. The homepage of the site will give you a good idea if they are kid friendly or not. Factors to consider on the cruise ship include the staterooms, entertainment, dining, dress code, electrical compliance, activities, and more. Always research the boat before you choose which vacation you are going to go on.

Uniworld river cruises are amazing and can provide a wonderful vacation for you and your family. Before you buy your vacation package be sure to research and choose the best one for you. Things to consider include the length of your vacation, the destinations, excursions, and the boat.

How to Pack For Danube River Cruises

If you are thinking about going on one of the Danube river cruises for vacation it is important to know how to pack. Things you need to consider include the weather, ship requirements, and room for souvenirs. Danube river cruises offer many things to do and see but if you pack wrong you might find yourself needing to spend vacation money on needs.

Danube river cruising takes place during the warmer months of the year. You should pack light clothes for warm weather. Packing light means light pants and light shirts. You don't want to be overdressed for this vacation. The days will be warm. The evenings may cool down a little so it is important to bring a light sweater in case you get cold. Another thing to consider when you are packing your clothes is comfortable shoes. Many people bring flip flops because they are going on Danube river cruises thinking they will be sitting on the deck viewing the scenery the whole time. This is not the case. You should bring a pair of good walking shoes because you will depart the ship and want to walk around the port cities. Without comfortable shoes you could be miserable.

Even the 3 day cruises have formal or dress dinners you should be prepared for. When you pack for a cruise on the river it is fine to pack mostly for comfort and casual wear. However, in the evenings on the ship you might attend a captain's or manager's dinner. This dining experience doesn't require you to dress nice but you should. Some cruises have a formal dinner which requires the passengers to wear a tuxedo or formal gown. Make sure you are aware of any dress requirements for special occasions on the ship. If you plan on attending an event like an opera in a foreign country, you will need to bring the right attire.

It is also a good idea to consider the different places you are going to travel to along the cruise and all of the people you might be bringing souvenirs back to. If you are bringing souvenirs home for people you need to be sure to have plenty of room in your suitcase. Don't over pack your suitcase and not have room for souvenirs. Danube river cruises have shops on the ship and there will be plenty of opportunities to shop at each of the ports. If you don't have room in your suitcase then you will have a miserable trip home carrying all of the bags with you through the airports and on the planes. In addition, some airlines may choose to charge you fees for additional carry-on luggage or if you need to check in another bag. You might want to do a comparison and see which suitcase is the best for your trip. You don't need to pack a lot of clothing when you take a 3 day cruise.

When you are packing for Danube river cruises it is important to pack light clothing for warm weather that is comfortable. Don't forget to bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes for excursions and possibly a dressy outfit. Always check any dress code requirements and leave enough room in the suitcase for shopping.

Lisbon is one of the world's oldest cities and has plenty of opportunities for historical and cultural exploration. Take the time to check out the famous Belem Tower, which was built in the early 16th century at the mouth of the Tagus River to defend against intruders.

After seeing Lisbon, you will hit your fourth country on the trip when you dock at La Rochelle in western France. Make sure to check out the Maritime Museum of La Rochelle where you can see Jacques Cousteau's legendary ship, The Calypso, on display.

This has made Istanbul a center for trade, wars, and cultural expansion for thousands of years.

After leaving busy and exciting Istanbul, you will be able to relax for two days at the seaside resort town of Kusadasi. There are many old houses that sit near the seaside and have been converted into lovely cafes and bars. This gives Kusadasi the feeling of a modern-day European town.

Leaving Kusadasi, you will trek to the Turkish port town of Bodrum and then on to the Greek island of Rhodes. This gorgeous island has been inhabited for thousands of years and is home to many ancient ruins. You can check out the Temple of Apollo, the walled medieval city of Rhodes Old Town, The Acropolis of Rhodes and more.

Your final destination is the Greek capital of Athens, again, home to many ancient wonders. This is a great trip for lovers of history, culture, and fine Mediterranean food.

Sailing the South Pacific

This fantastic 7-day journey aboard Royal Caribbean International's Rhapsody of the Seas starts in the bustling Australian capital of Sydney. After two long and relaxing days at sea, you will dock at the city of Noumea, which is the capital of New Caledonia.

Noumea has more days of sunshine per year than any other capital city in the Pacific, which will give you ample opportunities to explore its many beaches. These beaches remain un-crowded with tourists, so in many cases you can explore them with plenty of room to yourself.

From Noumea, it is a short sail to the Isle of Pines. Be ready to get wet, because the lagoon around this tropical paradise is famous around the world for its scuba diving and snorkeling. It is home to many exotic fish and corals.

You will spend another couple days at sea before you arrive back in Sydney, rested, relaxed, and hopefully with a killer tan!

There are plenty of ways to get out there and explore the world. A cruise vacation is just one of them. A well-rounded world traveler knows that they should take advantage of any opportunity for exploration that comes their way. A cruise is a great way to get out there and see the world.

Planning For Amazon River Cruises

If you plan to go cruising on a river, the Amazon, you want to plan ahead and be prepared in There are some things to plan, choosing the right car, properly packaged and make enough money to be taken. Amazon river cruises are a great way to take a few days of rest and proper planning will ensure a wonderful time of vacation.

The choice of the car you intend to stay on the cruise ship is a big problem. Many peoplethink they will be fine by choosing the smallest room possible because they will never be in their room. If you are someone who likes to have time to yourself and you want to be somewhere comfortable then you might want to be careful about choosing the cheapest room. The princess line has rooms that provide comfort and space so you can be comfortable. You can enjoy fresh air with a balcony if you choose. People who have issues with sleepwalking or small children shouldn't choose a balcony room. A larger more comfortable room makes it feel as if you are on your own private amazon river cruise. There will be moments when you want to get away from all of the tourists and have some private time to yourself.

Another factor when planning for Amazon river cruises is packing. Always pack light if you are traveling in the summer months through September. Bring light warm clothing for the evenings because it may get chilly. However, your trip will be warm and you won't need to pack any heavy clothing. Be sure if you bring electrical appliances like a hair dryer, the devices are up to code with the right electrical plugs. Many of the princess line cruises will offer hair dryers for you. Don't plug anything into an outlet that does not look the same as the one you are used to using. Also, it is always a good idea to ask about the electrical compliance before you pack your back. There are adapters you can purchase if you need to.

The next factor for planning for a private Amazon river cruise is money. A wonderful thing about taking a cruise is that you are saving money and buying an all inclusive package. This means you don't have to worry about food, accommodations, and even excursions. However, if you choose to drink alcoholic beverages on the ship you will have to pay additional money before you check out the final day. Many people are surprised with a large bill on their last cruise day because they assumed everything was free. Always get a list of the things you are charged for so there are no surprises at the end of your vacation. In addition, you will want to do some shopping at some of the amazing cities along the Amazon. Bring plenty of cash in the right currency. This may mean you need to exchange money at the airport when you arrive.

When planning your trip it is a good idea to read the reviews on the different rooms and choose one that will provide enough comfort for you throughout the journey. Bring a lot of money and of the flight.

River cruising ships and itineraries are specifically set up to meet the highest standards of luxury, comfort, and convenience, similar to that of a luxury world cruise. You only unpack your bags once, dining is included in the price, and you can visit several different locations. Unlike big sea cruise vessels, river cruise boats are much smaller, with a maximum passenger number of about 150. There are no large crowds onboard during dining times and at on board activities. You will come to know your fellow travelers very well, and are likely to form bonds to last a lifetime. Thanks to the small and intimate number of travelers, the attention paid to each traveler on a river cruise ship is truly the height of luxury.

With river cruises, you get more included in your fare than large sea cruises, making it a luxury travel vacation full of added value. River cruises usually include a half-day land excursion for each day of the cruise. Many river cruise boats do not have interior cabins, meaning you will have more views of the countryside. While most sea cruise ships are forced to only experience the charm of port cities, river cruises give travelers access to inland areas of countries. A lot of your sight seeing can be done from your boat. Imagine sailing along some of the most famous rivers and waterways of the world, rather than the country's infamously congested highways. River cruises often stop to experience sights that are more quaint, such as intimate villages, towns and vineyards, which would most likely be missed or overrun by a sea cruise ship.

River cruises start at about $1,300 per person. That amount may seem like a lot when big sea cruise ships are offering interior cabins at about $500 per person; but on a river cruise, you are staying in a cabin with a guaranteed ocean view. On big ships, excursions are almost always an extra price, whereas on river cruises, they are included. With river cruises, all the food is gourmet, and is included. River ships are smaller, more intimate and are built to provide the highest level of customer service and satisfaction. If you want to take a luxury travel vacation and want the most bang for your buck, consider the values in a luxury river cruise.

Spanish Cruises

Algericas is a port in southeastern Spain across the bay from Gibraltar. From this town, you can take an overnight boat train to Madrid, a 2 1/2 hour ferry ride to Tangier in North Africa or a several hour drive to the Costa del Sol area and visit the picturesque towns of Marbella, Malaga, Torremolinos, and Porto Banus. On the Costa del Sol, you'll find numerous resort hotels, beaches, boutiques, shops, good restaurants, night spots, and tourists from all over Europe.

The best resorts with the most facilities are Los Monteros, Marbella Club, and Puente Romano, all located in Marbella. The most colorful harbor area is Puerto Banus,a 10-minute ride from Marbella. Here you can stroll along the waterfront filled with giant yachts and visit some of the best shops and small ethnic restaurants to be found on Spanish cruises.

If your Spanish cruise docks in the harbor of Malaga, you will be able to take the tour to Granada and visit the famous Alhambra Castle and charming surrounding parks and attractions. On your way, you may wish to stop for lunch or a drink at the magnificent La Bobadilla Resort, which is built on a hillside in the style of Moorish village.

Barcelona is located on the Mediterranean coast of northern Spain not far from France. This busy city with a population greater than two million is the largest Spanish speaking port in the world after Buenos Aires. You will be able to capture the Spanish flavor by taking in the traditional bullfight, enjoying a flamenco show, or having some gazpacho and paella at a typical Spanish restaurant.

You can visit the historical cathedral known as "La Seu" in the old town as well as the interesting building nearby; drive or take the cable car up to the top of the hill of Tibadabo, from the heights of which you can see the Pyrenees.

The Canary Islands are a group of seven Spanish islands in the Atlantic Ocean 60 miles off the coast of northwest Africa. The islands are mountainous and have a mild climate with temperatures ranging from the sixties in winter to the seventies in summer. Most Spanish cruise ships stop at either Las Palmas on the Grand Canary Island or Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife. The islands are volcanic resulting in several black sand beaches.

Santa Cruz is a lively town that may seem more beautiful than Las Palmas. Here you can visit the archeological and anthropological museum, the seventeenth century Carta Palace, and the historical relics of the Church of the Concepcion. Tourists often take an excursion from Santa Cruz through the town of La Laguna followed by a beautiful drive to Orotava and Porto de la Cruz passing by beautiful coastlines, tropical flowers, and foliage. All that and more awaits you on a Spanish cruise.

Great European River Cruises

If you are thinking about taking a cruise, why not check out a European river cruise? Basically, all you have to decide is where you want to go and how long you want to stay. These cruises are generally four to sixteen day cruises and there are many places you can choose to see. You can travel down Blue Danube River and enjoy one of the most romantic cities of all, Vienna, and see the well known Vienna Opera House, or enjoy the night life of Budapest. Maybe you would like to cruise down the Douro River and see Portugal's restored palaces or vineyards. Whichever river cruise you choose you will enjoy breath taking views that you will never forget.

Older or newer ships?
Unlike, the big cruise ships on the ocean, the river cruises are smaller and offer more of a warm personal setting. There are several newer river cruise ships available which offer more amenities, like Wi-Fi access, flat screen t.v.s, saunas, whirlpools, etc. On the other hand, if you are a bit more nostalgic you might enjoy one of the older ships. If this is your first cruise and you are worried about getting motion sickness you might want to consider a river cruise. Unlike the larger cruise ships that travel in the ocean, which is rather choppy, the river cruise is a fairly smooth ride. These ships are also able to navigate to smaller destination ports because of their size, so you will be able to visit places larger cruise ships cannot travel to.

Costs
The cost of a European river cruise varies. Basically it depends on the cruise you choose. They have a no meals and no frills options for about $100.00 per night or a $5000.00 per person option for a two week privately chartered cruise. Generally you can expect to pay $1500.00 to $3000.00. It all depends on the cruise line, the destination, and whether air fare, shore tours and gratuities are included.

Looking to Book Cheap Cruises?

As well as bargain hunting on the websites of the major cruise lines, a second way to cruise at a reasonable price is to opt for a cruise of a less traditional nature. By this I mean the "mini-cruises" offered by ferry companies such as P&O, or the cruises offered by small fleets of sailing ships, such as those that operate from Greece and Turkey.

Dealing first with the ferry companies, these offer some amazingly cheap deals, and are good for those looking for the cruise experience, but on a short break. The major ferry companies frequently find that they need to fill up the places on their passenger ferries, particularly in the out-of-season periods, and offering "mini-cruises" is a good way of doing this. When booking a mini-cruise you can also book and pay for all your meals on board ship.

Paying in advance gets you a better price, and the all-you-can-eat meals are generally of four star quality. You only need to pay extra for the optional drinks that are served at your table. The mini-cruise usually includes transfers from the port to the major sightseeing centres too. P&O run some very pleasant mini-cruises from Hull, which give you a great day out in the exciting cultural metropolis of Amsterdam, the unique port town of Rotterdam, or the quaint little Belgian town of Bruges. P&O also run mini-cruises from Portsmouth to Bilbao in Spain, and the ferry company DFDS do similar mini-cruises to Norway and Denmark.

Going on a cruise summons up images of being on a large ship at sea, but there are also some very interesting river cruises to be had, such as Nile cruises, cruises on the Danube that take you to some of Europe's major cities, and even cruises on the beautifully serene Norwegian fjords. These tend to be run by smaller companies, and are significantly less expensive than the major sea cruises.

One type of cruise that is relatively inexpensive, and yet offers wonderful fun in the Aegean Sea is the gulet cruise. A gulet is a type of Turkish yacht, and normally takes just 8 - 14 passengers. You can join a gulet cruise out of the Turkish marinas of Marmaris, Bodrum or Antalya, and prices are usually based on two people sharing a cabin. Gulet cruises are definitely for the young and lively crowd, and prices usually include all food and some drinks, making them excellent value for money. Gulet cruises take in pretty little bays and inlets, as well as visiting picturesque fishing villages, with plenty of opportunity for sunbathing, snorkelling and partying. Similar sailing holidays can be had from ports and marinas in Greece, and also now from the marinas of Croatia.

Fun and informal cruises on sailing ships are also to be found around the West Indies, Panama, Costa Rica, and other seas further a field, from companies such as Windjammer Cruises.

So, there is more to cruising than traditional cruise ships and some of these alternative forms offer great value for money, along with a great deal of fun and adventure.

Russian River Cruises

River cruising is a very popular form of vacationing in Russia. With plenty of offers and affordable options, river cruising is becoming a favorite with everyone.

River cruising has many advantages, the most important being its flexibility- a cruise can range from just a couple of hours to a week or even a month. Besides, it can be for any kind of occasion: a romantic evening, a relaxing getaway, recreation, a venue for parties, a way to entertain, a unique hideaway and more.

Russia river cruises are being offered with many attractive options these days. They differ greatly based on the size, the style, the kind of cruise, the source and destination points, the length of the trip, package, discount offers, etc. Russia river cruises also differ on the basis of style: luxury cruises, budget cruises, expedition cruises, niche cruises, sailing cruise lines, wilderness cruises, adventure cruises, small cruises, romantic cruises, single cruises and others.

The most common source and destination points in Russian river cruises are: Moscow, St. Petersburg and Rostov-on-Dov. The cruise can be round-trip, meaning the source and destination are the same, or it can be from one location to another. Prices range from $1,100 to $2,600 or more, depending on the kind of cruise. The cruises are also based on specific themes like: Russian Waterways, Journey of the Czars, Great Mother Volga, Waterways of the Czars and more.
